If it is true, that we're extra terrestrials, it's sad to note that we really aren't behaving like one. We always visualize and assume that extra terrestrials are a higher life form, much more advanced (transformers, star wars, chicken little and many more!). Why is it that we call ourselves "just human", and go about destroying the planet in the pretext of adapting to our needs? Quoted from the matrix: unlike mammals, who adapt themselves to suit the surroundings, human beings change the surroundings to suit their needs. I think it's about time we stop destroying the earth by excavating, building, draining etc. Be an alien! Make a hover vehicle ;-), or maybe even hovering apartments (jetsons) :-D. Coming to think of it, we might as well make more high rises rather than spreading out. Going vertical makes more sense than spreading horizontally. There used to be a time when driving to the zoo outside Chennai city used to be a long, fun trip, through villages and small towns. Today, there're gated communities right behind the zoo. In fact, the zoo is almost "engulfed" by the city!
In anycase, it's time we put that up on our "social responsibility list": do not destroy the planet. It's not ours.
